Cache
A cache is a collection of data that is stored for future use. By storing — or caching — certain collections of data, performance is improved since the computer, software — and ultimately the user — is spared from having to wait while the data is freshly acquired. Since cached data can get stale, it is important — wherever the user has some level of control in the process — to be aware when working with data that has been cached and to refresh it when necessary.
